Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane), the gigantic man who brought the letter, finally introduces Harry into the real circumstances of his life: His parents were a wizard and a witch, they were killed by the evil wizard Voldemort (Richard Bremmer) protecting him. Harry still has a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead from that event. Since he survived the attack as a baby, and also somehow deprived Voldemort from his powers, he has been famous in the wizarding world ever since. The Dursleys, strong disbelievers in that magical crap, never told Harry anything about his true self. So, Harry is strongly surprised, yet absolutely happy to start his training. At Hogwarts, Harry meets his teachers, and becomes friends with Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson). The three of them accidentally find out that the potions master, Severus Snape (Alan Rickman), seems to plot on stealing something that is guarded by a three-headed dog. Since nobody would believe some first years to have found out such important things that even would incriminate a Hogwarts teacher, they take it on themselves to find out what Snape is up to. Their quest for the truth leads across many obstacles, from keeping up the everyday school life, a bewitched Quidditch match (Quidditch is a popular wizard sport), Fluffy, the three-headed monster dog, and quite some tasks one has to overcome to get to the guarded object

Watch online harry potter and the sorcerer's stone dubbed movierulz. Dear all, I have read the book and I thought it was a good read. So I went to see the (extremely advertised) film. What a failure! Trying to stick to the book as much as possible, Columbus managed to give a fragmented story that will make sence, only because most of the audience have read the book already and will be able to fill the (many) gaps of the story. Trying to keep up with the book so much, the director failed to give "the magic" of the book, and strangely enough did some unbelievable mistakes: one of the most important aspects of the book is that only Harry and Dumbledore can call Voldemort by his name. What did the director do about that? Scene No 1: Hagrid explains to Harry that some wizards go bad, and on that scene he has trouble saying the name, but not in the next, when he tells Harry the story and mentions Voldemort by his name. The same is true for Hermione later. As for the acting part, I believe it was overdone by most of the cast. My opinion: three out of ten.

It seems that some that had the fortune to read the Harry Potter books before seeing the movie (I am not one of them) did not like the movie much even though they kept to the book very well.
I loved the movie, and was very happy that they introduced the characters in the first of a possible 7 movie series (Chris Columbus mentioned 7 movies on the Sorcerer's Stone extras. With that many coming out, why not introduce the characters in the first movie.
I read the book after seeing the movie and saw that they not only stuck to the book, they put in most of the parts I liked (except the color flames at the end.
I enjoyed the second movie (chamber of Secrets) even more, yet I have not read the book. And look forward to the rest of the books to come to life.

I for one and am sure many others that feel the same way, it is nice to see the Harry Potter books come to life, and the Actors that were chosen to play the characters were perfect.
Chris Columbus is a great Director/Producer. He has made many other movies that I own and enjoyed and was great to see him do this movie.
